We love introducing you to local gems and today's deal is no exception. Bohemian Caverns on U Street originally opened in 1926 as a tiny jazz club in the basement of a drugstore. Washington's elite would come in droves dressed in their most formal attire, to be entertained by the likes of Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway. Left vacant in the early 80's, a new team of owners restored Bohemian Caverns several years ago to its former glory, and has given Washingtonians the jazz spot and supper club that DC has been missing.

Bohemian Caverns has a truly unique feel. The walls are made entirely of fake rock and sport decorative images as a tribute to the legacy of Washington and U Street's jazz heritage. But don't be fooled by the cavernous (is that a word?) decor: the dining room offers a complete 5 course menu of contemporary and traditional American cuisine consisting of Poultry, Seafood, and Beef dishes with special emphasis on barbecue. The Flintstone's certainly never ate this well.

There is a cash only cover charge during performances (cover/tickets start at $7 and go up from there) but rest assured that your ears and your belly will thank you! If you'd prefer, you can buy tickets in advance to specific performances instead of paying cover at the door.
